The 1x drivetrain does its best on the dirt and, along with the ample cassette, makes the climbs more tolerable. When it comes to versatility, the Breed | 20 has it in spades. On the rooty double track I definitely felt the hits and I had to get out of the saddle a lot. Two different wheel sizes? On gravel I think this is the way to go. Felt Bicycles made their name in racing, and The Breed 20 is no exception to that heritage.
Granted, it can fit 43mm tires easy, so I get the best of both worlds. There are only two bikes in the series with the Breed 20 ($2500) being at the top.
The Prologo saddle was noticeably flexy, but when we accidentally hit a bump or a pothole, we were thankful for how forgiving it was.Dirt descents felt natural for the Breed. My mtb is 27.5 so I’m used to that size wheel and along with the cross-compatibility, that was part of the appeal of the Breed.
The Breed is still on the way but I've got crankbrothers hybrid spd pedals waiting. It is a speed-focused, moderately-aggressive adventure bike primed for gravel riding, though that isn’t the only place it performs. But only a fat bike is “good” in sugar sand. That being said, it’s nice to know that if I ever wanted to try bikepacking the Breed 30 would be more than suitable.I’ll update this post after I’ve owned and ridden the bike some more but my initial impressions are obviously very favorable. I might swap out the more mtb-oriented Prologo Nago X10 T2.0 saddle for my road saddle the Fizik Antares.
